Tonite, it's back to the Big East with two of the Original 7 schools locking horns at UConn. It's ironic that even when UConn was struggling with it's Big East pedigree in the early 80's and Syracuse was among the league's best teams, the Huskies always found ways to beat the Orange(men, in those days). Syracuse longest winning streak against UConn was only four games.
Okay, enough of today's history lesson. It's about the here and now and tonite's game at Gampel. It's only Syracuse fourth ever visit to Gampel and Jim Calhoun joked during yesterdays visit with the media that Jim Boeheim "loves " to come to Storrs. I doubt it.
But Calhoun was also dead serious about the fact that he thinks Syracuse has the best offense in the league and UConn can't get into a "rat" game with the Orange. Jeff Adrien spoke about getting out on the Syracuse three point shooters.
There is no question that Jonny Flynn,Eric Devendorf, Andy Rautins ,Paul Harris and Arinze Onuaku can put points on the board. But it is also the first season that Syracuse has given up 100 points in two seperate games during Jim Boeheim's 33 years as head coach. So, the opportunities are there for the Huskies to score points.
Last years final score was 65-63, I doubt we will see a score as low tonite.
If you are going to the game, bring a "gently used" children's book for the SAAC book drive. It's a little publicized part of the UConn athletic program but an important one.
If you aren't going to the game, the broadcast begins @ 6:30 and you have a chance to chime in after the post game on Husky Talk.
I hope you join us!
