DETROIT- 9:20AM-- A relatively quiet morning on Radio Row @ Cobo Center.. Us, Cleveland, Miami and 1050 In New York rolling, or ready to roll. Bob Joyce is at KMOX in St Louis as we do a special edition of SportsTalk, getting the juices flowing for what is a huge weekend for college basketball in our state.
You have read all the stories about how it seems like the Huskies are talked out. Talked out but not too tired to play their best tonite. When the topic turned to basketball at the practices yesterday, thats when the players perked up.
Michigan State is tall and talented. They have earned their spot in the Final 4 with their comeback win over Kansas in the Sweet 16 and their dismanrtling of Louisville in the Elite 8. Tom Izzo has been to FIVE Final Fours. He has great experience in these situations. He has the Big 10 Player of the Year in guard Kalin Lucas, the defensive player of the year in Travis Walton and a veteran big man in Goran Suton. They can run and slow it down.
But....so can UConn. And in Hasheem Thabeet, they have a weapon that no one here has. I think if the Big Fella plays like he did in the second half against Purdue, UConn has a great chance to advance. If not, it's much,much tougher.
