To say it was a busy weekend would be an understatement. But the Women of Storrs accomplished what they set out to do from the start of the season. Win the National Championship. And they did it in such a dominating way you just have to tip your cap to Geno, the Staff and the players for a job well done..No, VERY WELL DONE !!
I have to admit, I was actually disappointed in the outcome of the Stanford Game. I thought the Cardinal would put up the best fight of the season. Instead, it was jsut like every other game because UConn just wouldn't allow it to happen. The defense kicked into gear and off the Huskies went..again...Yes Jayne Appel is a great post player. So is Tina Charles. After getting benched early Sunday, she returned with a vengence and NEVER stopped. Add to her dominating performance against Louisville, she was more than worthy of being named the MOP of the Final Four.
The Cardinal had no answers for Renee Montgomery Sunday, Louisville tried to go right at her in the Title Game with Deseree Bird trying to back her down, but 1-10 later, that wasn't the answer. In fact, in some ways, Louisville was their own worst enemy missing alot of chippies Tuesday Night and the Huskies made them pay.
The Huskies proved they're the best team...Period. And they'll be the Preseason #1 in November with 4 of 5 starters coming back. But right now, lets enjoy what we've just seen and good luck to Renee today in the WNBA Draft. She's a wonderful young lady with a great family. And I hope they keep listening to us as they have the last 4 seasons.
I am on vacation next week. And I become a baseball dad/umpire once Rob gets back from his trip to London. Hope you enjoyed our broadcasts all season long. Thanks to Kara, Mike & Joey for all their hard word during the season. We're as much a team effort as the Huskies are. But we're also just along for the ride. And this season, it was perfect !!
