Avon Mountain Crash Truck Owner Hospitalized
Matt Dwyer Reporting
|
The former owner of American Crushing and Recycling is in the hospital.
According to his defense attorney Ray Hasett, David Wilcox has received angioplasty at the UConn Health Center.
Wilcox had chest pains, while in the custody of the state Department of Correction.
Wilcox was transported to the Health Center in Farmington for treatment.
He was taken into their custody after his sentencing last week.
At that hearing in Hartford Superior Court, Wilcox's defense attorney described a history of two heart attacks and diabetes for the trucking company owner.
Wilcox was given a 6-year prison sentence, for cutting corners on maintenance for a truck that went out of control on Avon Mountain in 2005.
Another lawyer for the family, William Gerace, said Wilcox's condition was pretty bad.
Angioplasty is the surgical repair of a blood vessel, often involving the insertion of a balloon, laser or a stent to clear a clogged artery.
