New Labor Contracts with 10 State Nursing Homes
|
Connecticut's largest health care employees union says it has reached new contract agreements with ten nursing homes around the state. The labor compacts come after six months of negotiations between District 1199 of the New England Health Care Employees Union and three nursing home operators.
The agreements cover nearly 1,200 unionized employees and preserve care for 1,522 nursing home residents, the union said.
The new contracts are with Kindred Healthcare of Pennsylvania, Paradigm Healthcare Development, and Catholic Healthcare East.
Kindred operates three unionized facilities in Connecticut: Andrew House Healthcare in New Britain, Courtland Gardens in Stamford, and Windsor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Windsor. Paradigm recently purchased six nursing homes formerly owned by Marathon Healthcare, that were in state receivership, located in New Haven, Norwalk, Prospect, Torrington, Waterbury and West Haven . Catholic Healthcare East operates St. Mary Home, a large non-profit home in West Hartford.
All of the contracts include a 2.5% across-the-board wage increase in the second year of the two year agreements, the union said.
