Retirements Under Incentive Plan Total 3,856
|
When the state announced a retirement incentive program as a way to cut state spending and balance the budget, Governor Jodi Rell said the administration expected 25-hundred to 3-thousand employees would take part. Instead, the number is appreciably higher -- and the governor's office says that means the savings are likely to be greater than originally estimated. 3, 856 state employees have left state service as a result of the retirement incentives. Governor Rell says the plan is to strictly control re-hiring for the positions, to keep state government permanently smaller. And she says plans to re-hire any retirees on 120-day contracts or as consultants will be carefully reviewed and restricted. Those deciding to retire had until Tuesday to submit their paperwork.
