Rell Vetoes 7 Bills in 1 Day

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell has vetoed seven bills in one day, including one that would have required chain restaurants to post calorie counts for their regular menu items.
The Republican governor says no one should be surprised that a vegetable salad is healthier and more nutritious than a bacon cheeseburger.
Rell also vetoed a bill requiring health insurance companies to cover various medical treatments and procedures, including hearing aids for children, bone marrow testing, prosthetic devices, wigs for certain hair loss patients and ostomy supplies.
Other bills she vetoed would have created a new subcommittee to monitor inmate assaults on corrections officers, and a bi-state commission with New York to review environmental and energy issues facing Long Island Sound.
