EAST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is going to the beach, urging the Food and Drug Administration to take action against sunscreen labeling that he calls deceptive.
Blumenthal is to be at the East Haven town beach Monday morning to call on the FDA to end years of delays and put new rules and policies in place to protect consumers.
The attorney general says sunscreen makers are continuing to make false claims on labels about the products being waterproof, sweatproof and having sun protection factors over 50.
Blumenthal says the FDA has drafted but not implemented new rules that would ban broad waterproof claims and SPF factors above 50. The rules also require more instructions to warn consumers to reapply sunscreen and require rating systems for UVB and UVA protection.
