Driver Identified in Fatal Hartford Crash

Hartford police have identified the driver of a vehicle killed in a single-vehicle accident yesterday morning at Capitol Avenue and Babcock Street. Police say 29 year old Jerry Sturges of Hartford was travelling westbound on Capitol Avenue when he lost control of his Toyota Corolla near Flower Street, continuing westbound, crossing the center line into the oncoming lane before striking a stone wall and a metal pole at the Babcock Street intersection. Police say speed and reckless operation appear to have been factors in the crash. Sturgess was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital.
