Train Strikes and Kills Person in Waterford



One person is dead after being struck Wednesday morning by a high-speed Amtrak train in Waterford.

The railroad says an Acela train struck a trespasser shortly after 8:30 a.m. two miles east of the Niantic River bridge. Train 2190 was en route from New York to Boston with 104 people aboard. The train, along with several others through the area were held, as authorities investigated.

The posted speed limit through the area is 75 miles per hour.
