A former executive of one of Connecticut's largest companies died today.
Harry Gray was chief executive Officer of Hartford-based United Technologies. He was 89.
Gray took over the company then known as United Aircraft Corporation in 1971.
He led United Technologies until 1986.
During Gray's time as president and CEO, United Technologies went from being a defense contractor that primarily made planes, to a conglomerate.
Today that conglomerate includes businesses in a range of industries, including Pratt and Whitney, Otis Elevator, and Sikorsky Aircraft, as well as power and security divisions.
Gray was also on the board of regents at the University of Hartford, where a building is named after him.
He was one of the largest donors to the university.
