7/23/09 - First off, enough rain already !! It's been crazy here in Coventry since Memorial Day Weekend. According to Joe Furey, we had 6-8 inches of rain here that Sunday that left my entire basement floor with about 2 inches of water. And add to all the rainouts of the Legion Baseball Season has left this past 4 weeks full of baseball. But now, it's over...And I love the wooden bats used in the state tournament. The Coventry kids (3) play their Legion Ball in Rockville...Great group of kids says Rob.
Onto B-ball toughts..Well,Tina Charles proved the NCAA's weren't a fluke. She was the best post player at the World University Games where she got a double-double in the title game....Remember, she'll be UConn's All Time leading scorer when she's done..She'll keep it warm for Maya. And while Maya sat after tweaking her knee pre University Games, Tiffany Hayes was solid off the bench. She's the next great one at UConn..I know Caroline's knee rehab is coming along nicely, Kalana is working hard from the perimeter and Kaili supposedly has lost more weight (just for the record, I'm down 30).
The WNBA ALL Star Game is this weekend...6 Ex Huskies ?? Wow, and good for Charde Houston. Seimone Augustus goes down with a knee injury and Charde steps right in...Good for her !!! Then there is Diana, she messed up big time. Good News ? No one gets hurt as a result of a mistake..Learn from it, I know she will and take the help Geno offers you....
Finally, the non leaugue schedule is leaking out...Northeastern the Opening act on Banner night Nov 14th. Off to San Antonio Nov 17th for Texas...I'll spend my 44th birthday at Gampel when Stanford comes to town. Fla St rumored to be the last week of December (Tallahasse a boring city !!) ...Duke supposedly the MLK Game this year and at Oklahoma Feb 15th. Plus the WBCA Event Thanksgiving Weekend, the annual Hartford & Holy Cross Games...Vermont and UNC..Not a bad non league schedule.
So August ?? Vacation....Rob's off to Hofstra for Sports Broadcasting Camp. I'm intrested in this. He'll get a lot out of this.
Football Media Days in Newport (Big East) Always a "Lousy Time" Golf, Clambake, etc....Off for two weeks that involves projects in the yard, a little golf and perhaps a few days in Vermont...Then back to work and tah-dah...Football Season !!
