ALMOST GAMEDAY

Friday- What a dreary draggy day it is. It has forced the Rock Cats to postpone Game 3 of the Eastern League Northern Division Finals against the Defenders. Game 3 now Saturday night, 6:35 first pitch at New Britain Stadium, 6:05 with Jeff Dooley and yours truly on 965 HD2 and WTIC.com
It's also the day before the UConn football home opener against North Carolina at the Rent. By now, you may have heard that two Tar Heels, fullback Bobby Rome and backup defensive tackle Jordan Nix tested positive for "probable" swine flu and were left behind in Chapel Hill.
The loss of the two players won't affect a thing that Carolina will try to do against UConn tomorrow. They will try to run the ball although two offensive linesmen are questionable. The receiving corps is still good but nowhere near as good as a year ago when it was led by Giants 1st round draft pick Hakeem Nicks. T.J.Yates was hurt last year when the Heels won and his numbers indicated he is a better qb than Cam Sexton who ran the North Carolina offense last year.
It's the North Carolina defense that will be the big concern. Their front four is actually a front eight, it's big, fast and can make plays... The linebackers, led by Bruce Carter and Quin Sturdivant are playmakers as is safety Deonata WIlliams.
UConn can't afford four turnovers Saturday or it won't be pretty. But I get the feeling the Huskies will fine tune the mistakes from last week and give the Tar Heels a run for their money.
Hey, you don't think Michael Jordan will show up...after all he is only in Springfield...nah, I didn't think so either.
The broadcast day begins with "Ray at the Rent" at 5:30 AM, then the Tailgate Show hosted by the legendary Arnold Dean and the diminutive Kevin Nathan at 9:30. Among the guests UConn men's ice hockey coach Bruce Marshall and the Krygier brothers, including former Whaler Todd Krygier. Then Bob Joyce hosts the UConn Football Magazine. All those shows come from "the Dog House", located just outside Gate "C".
After our game broadcast with Kevin, the Mayor (Mr Norman) and myself, Bob hosts the Post Game Show and then it's Kevin with Husky Talk, your chance to talk about the game.
Enjoy your Friday night and I'll check in with you on Sunday morning!
