THE UNC POST MORTUM
|
SUNDAY- Obviously a painful and disappointing loss for the Huskies Saturday against North Carolina. Painful in two regards, the mental anguish of losing and physically painful with the loss of quarterback Zach Frazier and tight end Ryan Griffen for probably two weeks.
So now, we get a chance to see Cody Endress at the helm of the Connecticut offense. He certainly wasn't awful in his two starts last season. But it is too bad that once again Frazier suffers an injury in his second start (see concussion, Rutgers, 2008). John Delahunt and Corey Manning will get the chance to replace Griffen, who will be a real good one by the time his UConn career is over.
Yesterdays loss had to be especially painful for the Connecticut defense which stiffed the Tar Heels for the first 45 minutes. But then Carolina put together drives totalling 26 plays and 154 yards to score 10 points to tie the game.
To me, the pivitol play of the game wasnt the Dan Ryan holding penalty that resulted in a safety but the 3 and 18 conversion from their own 16 by Carolina to keep their touchdown drive alive. Who knows what happens if the Huskies hold. But TJ Yates made the throw, Eric Highsmith made the reception and UNC moved the chains.
As far as the safety was concerned, I thought it was when I saw the replay. But to all of you who question making the call in that situation or Referee Jack Childress is from the ACC, you have got to be kidding me. I will talk more about that Monday night on SportsTalk starting @ 610.
Time to go to work on Baylor. More after Tuesday's press luncheon.
