Red Sox Talk About a New Ball Park (for Spring Training) The Boston Red Sox have spoken with officials in Sarasota, Fla., about relocating their spring training home from Fort Myers to the facility that will become vacant when the Cincinnati Reds move to Arizona in two years. Red Sox spokesman John Blake called the talks preliminary.
Big East Particpant in New Bowl Game A new bowl game is launching in the upcoming football season. The conference announced Wednesday that the NCAA has certified the "St. Petersburg Bowl" to be played at Tropicana Field, with Big East and Conference USA participants. The gamewould be played between December 20th and 23rd.
UConn Women to Face Rutgers Twice Again in 2008-2009 The University of Connecticut women's basketball team will play Rutgers twice again in the 2008-2009 season. The Big East today announced the home and away league schedule, with each team playing 16 conference games -- eight at home, and eight away. Besides the Rutgers home game, the Huskies have home games against DePaul, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Syracuse, and Villanova.
Huskies' Kelly to Transfer for More Playing Time Connecticut forward Curtis Kelly is transferring in hopes of earning more playing time at another school.
The sophomore is speaking to other schools and has yet to decide where he will go, UConn announced Tuesday.
Violinist Joshua Bell to Open Hartford Symphony Orchestra Season The Hartford Symphony Orchestra opens its 65th season September 24 with a guest appearance by world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell. The program will include Tchaikovsky's Concerto in D major for Violin and Orchestra. Also on the program will be Dvorak’s Carnival Overture, Rossini’s Overture to La scala di seta, and Rouse’s Rapture.
Date Switched for UConn Football Game This Fall The UConn football Huskies' fifth game of the fall football schedule has been changed. Instead of playing their game at Louisville on Saturday, September 27th, they'll play Friday night instead. The game at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium will bethe fourth meeting of the two teams as Big East members. UConn defeated Louisville in a Friday night game last year, 21-17, at Rentschler Field.
UConn Announces Fall 2008 Football Schedule The UConn Huskies play six home games at Rentschler field in their fall 2008 football schedule, plus four Big East road games and two out of conference road games.
The season starts at home, with UConn playing host to the Hofstra Pride Thursday night, August 28, and wraps up at home December 6, with the Pitt Panthers travelling to Rentschler.
UCONN MEN'S BASKETBALL UPDATE The word from UConn today is that sophmore guard Doug Wiggins will resume practicing with the men's basketball team late Thursday afternoon. But Wiggins and teammate Jerome Dyson are both still indefinitely suspended from game competition by head coach Jim Calhoun.
