Rell Orders $34 Million in Budget Cuts
|
With estimates of the state budget shortfall ranging from nearly $400 million dollars to more than $600 million, Governor Jodi Rell has ordered more than $34 million in state budget cuts. Under state law the governor may order a recission of up to five per cent of any budget. She says she expects to make more cuts over the next few weeks and to present a full deficit mitigation plan by December 1. She asked her Council of Economic Advisors to brief legislative leaders a week from today.
The cuts include about $8.5 million for the Department of Children and Families, $7.25 million for the Department of Social Services, $3.75 million for the Department of Developmental Services, $2.4 million for Legislative Management, $1.2 million for the Department of Environmental protection and nearly a million for the Department of Education.
