Governor Asks About Possibility of Closing a Prison

Governor Jodi Rell says she's asked the Department of Correction to look into the possibility of closing a state prison.  The governor says the number of inmates has dropped at the same time the state needs to save money.  She wrote Acting Correction Commissioner Brian Murphy that it's an indication of the department's success that she's able to make such a request.
There currently are about 18,600 inmates in Connecticut's 18 prisons,  down from a high of nearly 19,900 21 months ago.
