The Final Tuneup....

Monday 11/9: The Huskies get one last chance to shore things up before the season opener Saturday with Northeastern when they host NAIA Power Vanguard University tonight at the XL Center (6:30 pregame). The Lions have played 4 games already against Division I teams in Stanford, Cal & Arizona State. (losses) and they actually beat San Francisco of the WCC.
They'll shoot a lot of three's tonight, approx 25 per game and are led by 5-9 Jr Paige Halberg, 5-7 Sr Bridgette Reyes and 5-10 Sr Rachel Copeland. Averaging 14, 13 & 12.5ppg respectively during the tour. Their Coach, Russ Davis is in his 14th season and has a UConn connection as one of his AAU players, Lauren Englin (hope I spelled it right) is one of the bumper crop of incoming Freshman NEXT year to Storrs.

Here is what i'll be looking for tonight. 1) to see who, if any of the three (Dixon, Doty or Hayes) rises above the others at point guard. Lorin will start again. 2) to see if Heather Buck has gained any confidence. The head coah has been hard on her, just like he was and continues to be on Tina. 3) if Maya starts taking to the hoop consitantly in the halfcourt to get to the line more. 4) and see if Kelly Faris can put back to back games together of what we saw from her in game #1.

Remember, they are the preseason #1 with the best player and post player in the country. But there is a great chance the pieces around them will determine just how far the Huskies go this season. Some think they'll run the table again. Maybe, Maybe not...Kara & I have the pregame at 6:30, tip at the XL 7pm...And as always, drop us a line and let us know where you might be listening to us on the air or the web....!! Always great to hear from you....Hope to see u there !!

btw: John Altavilla is reporting (thru what he's heard) Elena Delle Donne dropped 50 on someone in a closed scrimmage against a D-I school. If true, good for her..

Enjoy !!
