New Service Plaza Plan Announced for Highways

Connecticut's highway service areas will be getting a new look.  The state has announced a 35-year contract which will put a Subway sandwich shop, a Dunkin' Donuts and a convenience store at each of the 23 service plazas on Interstate 95.   McDonald's fast food restaurants will continue to operate at eight of the service plazas.  Since 1985, all the restaurants on I-95 have been operated by McDonald's.

Under the new deal, additional food offerings will be available at some of the larger plazas.  In addition to I-95, service plazas on I-395 and the Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkways also will get a makeover.  Governor Jodi Rell's office says money from the operatons, construction, and reinvestment, should bring the state half a billion dollars over the term of the agreement.
