Back home after another impresive win for the UConn Women as they bombed away at Cameron Indoor Stadium en route to 13 3 pointers in the 81-48 win over #6 Duke. I thought the Blue Devils did a good job in tying up Tina Charles inside. But in the second half, Maya Moore, Tiffany Hayes & Caroline Doty started to feel it from Deep. 8 of the 13 treys in the last 20 minutes.
Thru it all, Kalana Greene is establishing herself as the attitude of the team...She is as confident these days as much as Tina is...And just knows everytime out, the Huskies are going to win. And last night shows the versitility of this team...But it also brings up a good point. Maya as good a 3pt shooter as she is, needs to get agressive and get to the hoop more. In the 5 true road games, she's been to the line 5 times. Throw in the Texas game, on a neutral floor, she's been there 16 times. But here is a kid who is built like a linebacker. I believe Geno will continue to drive home that fact. She needs to l learn to slash and use her body to get inside. I say this and she's the best women's player in America (ok, one of the two best).
As for that other kid, Tina is playing at an insane level. Four straight double doubles for the UConn Center who found different ways to help out last night. 14 boards and 3 assists along with 10 points. Add the weaponry of Hayes and Doty and the deepened bench with the addition of Lorin Dixon who gets better each game. And Kaili McLaren is playing better these days too... especially the Hi-Low. Honestly, who is going to beat this team ?? There will be some long nights ahead for the Conference foes. Heck, when Dickie V is a believer..Do I need to say more ?? Finally, kudos to ESPN for it's Gameday Coverage at Gampel..It was awesome. And finally, Dear ESPN, let Dan Schulman do play by play for the Women's Final Four..I know he's a baseball & NBA Guy too...But he's be a breath of fresh air for the event..Just my opinion..
Doubleheader Saturday..Women at Nova' at 1:30...Then the Men and #1 (for Now) Texas...Best wishes to Coach Calhoun for a speedy recovery...And Kara returns Saturday. Thanks to the Mayor for a great job Monday. Joe's one lucky guy to have a partner like him......
