David v Goliath

Monday: Feeling much better after a full night's rest following a bout with food poisoning thank you very much. In doing game prep for tomorrow night's clash with Rutgers (6:30 on WTIC from XL Center) I ran into Brittany Ray's Blog. She is a senior guard for the Scarlet Knights who feels tomorrow night is a David v Goliath matchup and that her team is ready to come into Hartford with a chip on their shoulders and prove to the country that the tough, non conference schedule has prepared them for this game. They are 4-1 in the league and 12-7 overall. And in typical C. Vivian Stringer fashion, her team does not score a ton (59ppg) but they don't give up a bunch ether (51ppg).

Truth be told, this is not the same Rutgers team that used to come into a UConn Game knowing full well they have a great chance to win. Epiphanny Prince choose to play a year abroad prior to the WNBA Draft. And of couse the names Ajavon, Carson and Vaughn are long gone as well. Ray is their only double digit scorer, Khadijah Rushdan is coming off a big time game against Marquette with 17p, 10r, 6a, 6s and 9/10 from the line. I think she is their best all around player. And teams get to the line more so than RU. 370-331. I"ll be intrested how physical the game will be tomorrow night.

Finally, I believe Mike G & I beat the team to the hotel for the first time EVER !!! We drove while the Huskies took the train. And you should have seen the Sinatra Style hat Geno strolled into the hotel with. I asked him in the pregame if we'd ever see that on him during a game..."Only if we played outdoors." he said... Good stuff...

Before I check out, cudos to the Guys for a fabulous turnaround Saturday against Texas. Good thing we had XM in the car, 1080 wasn't coming in and had to listen to the Texas Broadcast. But at least we knew what was going on. I figured Joe had a great call or two...or three. Sure enough, as we crossed the GW Bridge, we heard the highlights on the postgame show. Right again !! Tomorrow it's the Ladies and RU at 6:30...The Guys visit PC Wednesday at 6:30 and another Doubleheader Saturday with the guys and Marquette at 11:30...then the Women at Pitt at 2. Yes, the action is now fast & furious as the hit the home stretch...Crazy how fast the season flys by eh ??
